Acoustical Separation of Oil-Water Emulsions - Ongoing

Goals

To speed-up the separation of oil-water emulsions in settling tanks through acoustical excitation and/or alternatively by chemical additions.

Topics of Research

Droplet formation, emulsion studies, vibrations, acoustics, coalescence, interface properties of emulsions.

Motivation

Separation of oil-water emulsions is a slow process that occurs in large containers. We aim at accelerating the gravitational separation of oil-water and other types of dispersions by acoustical excitation of droplets or adjacent structures in the so-called packed zone.
